Quebec College's Student Association Embraces Armed Struggle Against Bill 78   Leave a comment

Reblogged from Student Activism:

Revolution is in the air:

The student association at CEGEP du Vieux Montréal has come up with a rather unique response to the government’s controversial Bill 78 – and it involves purchasing assault rifles.

At a general assembly on Tuesday, the Association générale étudiante du CEGEP du Vieux Montréal expressed its unhappiness with the “intimidation” and “state violence” in the Liberal government’s “anti-democratic” Law 78, and then proceeded to authorize the purchase of 47 AK-47 assault rifles.

North Carolina activists scored a much-needed win on May 26, when grassroots pressure forced the Ku Klux Klan to move a publicized cross-burning out of the state. Alongside the victory, organizing for the event also provided many important lessons for organizers.

The Klan is an ever-present threat, if subterranean, in the state. In my five years here, I have heard King, N.C.–a small town in the Stokes County foothills–described as “the Klan capital of the state” several times.

1. The US indictment Here are the known facts about the sealed indictment against Julian Assange by the US Grand Jury. Meanwhile the Australian authorities have issued a statement denying knowledge of any such indictment. To use a common journalistic term: bollocks!

2. The redacted (heavily edited) article by John Pilger

John Pilger and Gareth Pierce giving statements to the Press after the UK Supreme Court decision on May 30.

Extradition Appeal Verdict: 30 May 2012

About a dozen of us had gathered outside the Supreme Court by 7.30am in preparation for what we expected to be the last stage, one way or the other, in Julian Assange’s fight against extradition to Sweden. We were not encouraged by the news that Hillary Clinton would be visiting Sweden hours after the verdict.

This morning, the BNP National Treasurer and Griffin ‘yes man’ Clive Jefferson, was at Liverpool Magistrates Court on charges relating to his arrest outside the Crown Court earlier in the month.

The BNP had called for a national mobilisation to support Jefferson, yet unfortunately the active BNP membership is disappearing as fast as party funding. They could only manage around thirty people, of which only two were known faces.

Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) — Someone is pounding on the door. It is 3:45 a.m. The pounding gets louder. The father goes to open the door, and immediately they enter: two men dressed in civilian clothes, flanked by police officers bearing heavy guns. They go straight towards the boy, who has pulled on a baggy sweatshirt and stepped out of his room, snake their hands under his arms, and take him.

[ PIC 31/05/2012 - 09:37 AM ]

AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed Fawar refugee camp at dawn Thursday and arrested 22-year-old student Sayyaf Abu Tuaima, eyewitnesses said.

They said that the soldiers encircled the home of the student then took him away without saying whereto.

Sayyaf, a studentof the Palestine Polytechnic, was recently held in PA preventive security for two days during which he was savagely tortured for participating in a march celebrating victory of prisoners in their “dignity” hunger strike and marking the Nakba.

Greeks organising parallel economy   Leave a comment

Reblogged from Darker Net:

All across southern Europe the whiff of revolution is in the air. From Spain to Italy, to Greece and beyond, hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets. In Greece, the elections will play out, though whichever party forms the next government is to a large extent irrelevant as people have been organising for years via street committees, assemblies and similar groups, setting up a parallel economy – ‘government’ based on mutual aid.
